CHRONIC PAIN AND PATIENT EDUCATION

Everyone feels pain from time to time. When you pull a muscle, pain is your body’s way of telling you something is wrong. Once the injury heals, you usually stop hurting. Chronic pain is different to this. You keep feeling pain for weeks, months or even years after the original injury. So why does this happen?

When you injure yourself, the tissue stimulates nerve sensors in that area. These sensors send messages via the nervous system until it reaches your brain. Your brain will process this and send a signal that you are hurt. Usually this signal will stop when the cause of the pain is resolved, but with chronic pain, the nerve signals keep firing even after you are healed. Your physiotherapist will guide you through the process of treating this so you can return to your daily activities without pain.

One way of guiding and restoring your previous self through physiotherapy intervention is through detailed patient education. At CW Physio’s Inc we not only treat the cause of your symptoms, but we incorporate patient education into all our treatments, to help you better understand what you are going through.

We have a variety of patient handouts to best educate  you on your diagnosis or operational procedures. Our information and exercise handouts are thorough and you are never left questioning yourself on the activities suggested to you.
