PAEDIATRICS AND

NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Our team of physiotherapists are qualified and experienced to treat children of all ages, from the premature baby in the NICU to the pre-teen. Our rooms are equipped with the space and devices required for effective paediatric sessions. We use a ‘play’ approach to make these sessions enjoyable for both the child and parent. Parent and/or caregiver training forms an integral part of our approach.

Babies and children often require specialized physiotherapy intervention for a variety of conditions such as:

  • Developmental delays
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Chest infections
  • Burn wounds
  • Down’s Syndrome
  • Preterm babies
  • Autism, ADHD
  • Orthopaedic conditions
  • Torticollis
  • Musculoskeletal conditions
  • Other neurological conditions
  • Colic babies
  • Constipation and bladder complications

Physiotherapists play an important role as part of the multidisciplinary team both in the Neonatal ICU (NICU) and following a NICU stay.

The NICU can be an intimidating environment for parents. We aim to equip parents with the necessary information and skills to confidently care for their baby. As trained physiotherapists, we are able to provide the following services in the NICU in a safe and effective manner:

  • Chest physiotherapy
  • Neurological assessments & intervention
  • Premature infant assessments & facilitation
  • Musculoskeletal assessments & treatment

At CW Physio’s we provide follow-up physiotherapy after discharge from the NICU to ensure that these babies reach their full potential.
