HYDROTHERAPY

At CW Physio’s we have the appropriate equipment and skills to provide effective hydrotherapy sessions at our designated facilities.

Hydrotherapy is a treatment modality where the physiotherapy session is performed in water. This is usually done in a heated pool with easy access via a ramp or a hoist into and out of the pool. Once the patient is safe to, we provide them with a completed and tested home hydrotherapy program.

The buoyancy effect of the water, together with guided physiotherapy exercises, provides many benefits including:

  • Reduces pain
  • Improves aerobic fitness
  • Improves balance and coordination
  • Allows standing in those patients who are unable to weight-bear out of the water
  • Reduces the fear of falling
  • Improves the range of motion in the joints
  • Provides a relaxing and calming experience

Hydrotherapy can be utilized for a variety of conditions, such as:

  • Postsurgical: Following hip or knee replacements, back surgery or ligament reconstruction.
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Stroke
  • Chronic pain
  • Musculoskeletal injuries such as: Osteoarthritis, low back pain and ankylosing spondylitis.
  • Paediatric conditions such as: Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida and Infantile Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
